About MCYS

MCYS is a child’s bridge from challenges today to achievements tomorrow.

Montgomery County Youth Services (MCYS) is committed to working with youth and their families through several human services and mental health programs. MCYS was established in 1979 by a group of community leaders who developed juvenile justice prevention services for at-risk youth in the community. MCYS obtained their not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) status in September 1979. See our:

MCYS has expanded over the years to include services and activities that benefit youth who struggle with the challenges and complexities of life. Issues addressed include, but are not limited to:

• Conflict in the home
• Runaways
• Peer pressure
• Self esteem
• School issues
• Behavior
• Grief and divorce

The agency’s six locations provide direct and indirect services to thousands of youth and families annually. MCYS has strong collaborative relationships with community agencies, businesses, churches, and school districts.

Organization
MCYS is organized into three primary, interrelated entities to facilitate the effective delivery of needed services:

Youth and Family Services – Provides short-term crisis intervention and mental health services for youth up to age 18. Individual, group, and family counseling targeted at resolving youth issues is available at no charge. Other services include:

  • Camp Watsitumi
  • Healthy Supports prevention services
  • Groups in schools
  • Suicide prevention
  • 24 hour on-call response to the Runaway Hotline
  • Community Outreach and Education

Shelter Services – Provides youth in crisis with a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment while they work toward achieving identified objectives.

  • BridgeWay Youth Shelter – Short term shelter program for up to 90 days, serving youth age 10 to 17. Placements are focused on providing intensive intervention to the youth and family, in order to assist them in resolving the issues that created the crisis.
  • Fairway Home – Transitional living program for up to 18 months, serving youth age 16 to 18, and providing services to help youth transition to independent living.

Funding
MCYS is funded in part at the Federal, State, and County level. We are a Montgomery County United Way agency. We are also supported by the generous donations of individuals, organizations, churches, corporations, and foundations in the local community, and the greater Houston area.
