Short term Shelter for Youth in Crisis
Most people living in Montgomery County are unaware of the deplorable living conditions endured by our community’s most vulnerable residents – our children. “Sonya” is one such child, who found sanctuary at BridgeWay.
Born drug-addicted from her mother’s drug use during pregnancy, Sonya’s mother and father were both incarcerated, soon after her birth for a variety of child abuse, neglect, and drug-related offenses. Her mother was eventually murdered and her father remains in prison.
Sonya endured much before arriving at BridgeWay. She was admitted to the Youth Shelter after a former caregiver could no longer meet her needs. BridgeWay provided her with the safety, support, guidance, and encouragement she so desperately needed. With the staff’s help, she now flourishes and has become a cheerful and fun-loving young lady.
BridgeWay Youth Shelter
BridgeWay is a co-ed 13-bed, short-term shelter program for youth, ages 10 – 17. Youth in the shelter can be referred by the Texas Department of Family Protective Services (TDFPS), Juvenile Services, churches, social service agencies, or individuals in the community. The length of stay in the shelter will vary depending on the needs of the youth.
Youth attend public school in Willis Independent School District. The shelter operates on a structured routine that includes opportunities for fun, recreation, leisure, quiet time, and group activities. Admission to this program is conducted on an as needed basis by calling the shelter.
